From „The Secret Lives“ to a „Public Guru Guru“
After releasing the critically acclaimed Mani + Zeus album “The Secret Lives” on notorious Düsseldorf Bellerophon Records,
ZBH joined Mani’s Guru Guru as their fourth band member.
Their guitar player Jan Lindqvist had left the group in summer.
Due to the current restrictions, out of the scheduled twenty or more gigs of their 2020 autumn tour only two came to fruition:
Mani, Peter, Roland and Zeus were cooking a new kind of Guru Guru Brew at Stuttgart’s Labaratorium (10. Oct) and in Schramberg’s Kulturbesen (24.Oct). – the audience were celebrating the new line up…

Holger Czukay Preis für Popmusik der Stadt Köln 2020
Nach der erfolgreichen Einführung im vergangenen Jahr stiftet die Stadt Köln erneut einen Preis für herausragende Leistungen im Bereich der Popmusik.
Für den Ehrenpreis zur Würdigung eines umfangreichen künstlerischen Schaffens hat die Jury sich für die Formation „Gina XPerformance“ entschieden. „Gina X Performance“, im Kern ein Duo aus Gina Kikoine (Text, Stimme, Konzept) und Zeus B. Held (Keyboards, Komposition und Produktion), gründete sich 1977 in Köln und war bis 1984 aktiv. In dieser Zeit entstanden insgesamt vier Alben, die auf internationalen Labels veröffentlicht wurden. Gleich der zweite, je von den Künstlern im Kölner „Studio am Dom“ aufgenommene Song „No G.D.M.“ wurde ein Hit, der besonders in den Clubs von New York und London großen Anklang fand und immer noch findet.
In der Begründung der Jury heißt es:
Gina X Performance waren ihrer Zeit weit voraus mit ihrem elegant-distanzierten elektronischen Pop und den extrovertierten Auftritten. Noch bevor Pop-Ikonen wie Grace Jones oder die Eurythmics für ihren unterkühlten Sound berühmt wurden, trugen Gina Kikoine und Zeus B. Held von Köln aus ihre androgyne Coolness in die Welt hinaus. Der neue Wave-Pop made in Cologne feierte Charterfolge in Österreich, Kanada, UK und Israel. Der Sound von ‚Gina X Performance‘ hat sich als zeitlos aktuell erwiesen, wie die Wiederentdeckung ihrer Musik durch Star DJs wie Andrew Weatherall oder DJ Hell belegt. Die Texte und vor allem die legendären Auftritte von ‚Gina X Performance‘, in denen Musik, Mode, Theater und Aktionskunst verschmolzen, machen die Gruppe heute zu Vorreitern einer queeren Kunst, in der Fragen von Geschlecht und Identität neu verhandelt werden.“
Was lange währt wird endlich gut – jetzt ging es ruck-zuck: ein Album mit Grooves, Songs und Klangkonstellationen.

A musical live performance of songs and sounds from
Fashion „Fabrique“ and Gina X Performance „Nice Mover“
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Only After Dark Club Night in Birmingham – Part Two
The second of three OAD Specials this year will take place on 24th August, and will feature a 60 min live set by Dave ‚De‘ Harris (Fashion) and Zeus B. Held (Gina X Performance) who is coming over from Germany to perform at OAD.
Their set will be showcasing the deluxe re-issue later this year of the seminal album ‚Fabrique‘ by Fashion and, as an added bonus, will also include a couple of Gina X Performance tracks.
‚Fabrique‘ very much reflected the sound of early 80s alternative club nights in Birmingham and beyond, and that was primarily down to two factors, the songs of vocalist/guitarist Dave ‚De‘ Harris combined with the ’sound‘ created by producer/keyboard player Zeus B.Held.
On it’s first week of release in 1982, ‚Fabrique‘ entered the UK album charts in the Top 10, and then spent a further 16 weeks in the charts. It includes the singles ‚Move On‘, Streetplayer-Mechanik‘ and ‚Love Shadow‘.

an improvised set with the musicians of up and coming British group „The Eskimo Chain“ –
…a remarkable fusion – showing that he is still a real Master of Ceremony –
a wizzard of the ritual and the moment
